We are always looking for ways to make the editor's job an easier one. After all, the editors time should be spent on creative decisions, not on timecode nightmares. Very often an editor must deal with one set of time code numbers for picture and a totally different set of time code numbers for sound. When it comes time to sound design and mix, re-accessing the original audio tapes can be a very time consuming process, especially with all of these different sets of time code numbers floating around. Well, we have the ultimate solution... SIMUL DATS.
During the dailies post syncing process, all of the audio that is being layed back to the videotape is also being recorded onto a DAT (digital audio tape) cassette that contains matching videotape time code. Now all video edits are done with the address track time code on the video tape, and, all audio edits are done using the same time code numbers off the videotape. No more dealing with two or more sets of time code numbers, or three or more visual burn ins! When it comes time to re-access any original audio, the Simul Dats are used instead of the field audio tapes. An edl right off of the non-linear workstation will allow for an automated auto-conform.
Simul Dats are inexpensive and do not add any time to the syncing process. No longer is there a need to surrender an audio track for additional time codes, or have a seperate audio time code burn in on the screen.
We specialize in the conversions between film rates and video speeds. For any synchronization or layback information, please contact us here.
